BECOME A RESOURCE PARENT / FAMILY
Every child deserves a safe, loving, and culturally respectful home.
You can be that home.
We welcome all individuals and families-Native and non-Native— who are committed to supporting children in foster care.
Strengthening the Future
We Provide:
Culturally grounded training, certification, and support
24/7 access to experienced social workers
Monthly financial reimbursement
Assistance with clothing, supplies, and childcare needs
Opportunities to connect with tribal events and traditions
You don't have to be Native to make a difference - just willing to love, learn, and lead with heart.
ROLES OF A RESOURCE PARENT
Resource Families open their hearts and homes to provide structure, care, nurture, and stability to foster youth who have been removed from the care of their family of origin.
Offer a safe and secure home
Providing a supportive and stable family environment can help a foster child adapt to the traumatic changes they may be experiencing. Empathy, patience, and understanding are the foundation we look for in all of our resource parents.
Mentorship
Providing a safe and stable home is just the first step. Teaching and modeling what appropriate behavior is in various settings, encouraging positive socialization with peers, and educating on proper hygiene and self-healthcare based on their age.
Team Collaboration
Working closely with the child’s social services staff, mental health support, health care personnel, and educational institutions to promote the best interest of the child. Setting appropriate boundaries and utilizing healthy and positive parenting techniques.
Cultural Involvement
Educating yourself as well the child about their Native American / Alaska Native culture, including attending at least one
AI/AN event per month (i.e. health clinic gathering, powwow, museum, film, powwow dance class, etc.).
